Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work? Is it safe? How much does it cost? We have you covered!

Your journey begins with a comprehensive initial consultation. Adam will take a detailed medical history and perform a physical, orthopedic, and neurological examination to identify the factors contributing to your pain. Once a clinical diagnosis is made, we will explain our findings and, where clinically appropriate, begin your first treatment.

We believe in transparent pricing with no hidden surprises.

  • Initial Consultation & Examination: £68 (Includes full assessment and first treatment if appropriate).

  • Follow-up Treatment: £42.

  • Re-Examination: £55 (For returning patients who we haven't seen for over 6 months).

Cancellation Policy: We kindly request 24 hours notice for cancellations. Missed appointments or late cancellations may incur a fee to cover clinic costs.

We accept all major debit / credit cards and contactless payments.

In most cases, imaging is not required to begin effective chiropractic care. Current clinical guidelines (including those from NICE) suggest that routine imaging for non-specific back pain is often unnecessary. As a GCC-registered chiropractor, Adam is trained to identify "red flags" or clinical indicators that may require further investigation.

If your clinical examination suggests that an X-ray, MRI, or ultrasound is necessary for your safety or to guide your treatment plan, we will discuss this with you. We can then facilitate a private referral to a local Sheffield imaging centre or provide a detailed clinical letter for your GP.

This depends entirely on your specific condition, how long you’ve had the pain, and your lifestyle factors. While some patients experience significant relief within 1–2 sessions, chronic or complex issues may require a structured management plan of 6–10 visits to achieve stable, long-term improvement.

During your initial consultation, Adam will provide a clear roadmap and an estimated timeline for your recovery. We perform regular re-evaluations to ensure you are meeting your goals and that your care remains the most efficient path to your recovery.

Chiropractic treatment is generally painless and many patients find it quite relaxing.

During a spinal adjustment, you may hear a "popping" or "clicking" sound. This is a natural physiological phenomenon known as cavitation—simply the release of gas bubbles from the joint fluid, much like cracking your knuckles.

While common during certain manual techniques, many of our other treatments do not produce this sound. It is important to note that the sound itself has no bearing on the effectiveness or benefits of your treatment; the goal is to improve joint mobility and function, regardless of whether a "pop" is heard.

Note: If you are in acute pain, some areas may be sensitive to touch, but Adam will always work within your comfort levels. Some patients also experience mild soreness for 24–48 hours after their first few visits, which is normal.

No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals, so you can book an appointment directly with us, without seeing your doctor first.

While we enjoy a collaborative relationship with local Sheffield GPs and can provide updates on your care (with your explicit permission), a formal referral is rarely necessary to begin treatment.

A note on private health insurance: While we don't require a referral, some private health insurance providers may require a GP referral before they will reimburse the cost of your care. We recommend checking your specific policy details before your first visit.

Yes. Chiropractic is widely recognised as a safe treatment approach for the management of back and neck pain.

As a GCC-registered chiropractor, Adam Carr adheres to the highest safety and professional standards in the UK. Part of this commitment to safety involves a thorough initial assessment, where Adam screens for any "red flags" or underlying conditions that might require a different approach or a referral to your GP.

While some patients may experience mild, short-term soreness after their first visit, serious complications are extremely rare. We will always discuss your specific case and any potential risks with you before your treatment begins.

At Handsworth Chiropractic Clinic, we want you to feel 100% informed before beginning your care. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

If you would like the opportunity to discuss a specific health concern or find out if chiropractic is the right fit for you, we offer a Free Screening Appointment.

This gives new patients in Sheffield a chance to meet Adam and see if their condition is suitable for chiropractic care. This appointment is complimentary and includes:

  • Brief Consultation: A short discussion about your primary health concerns and symptoms.

  • Professional Opinion: Expert advice on whether chiropractic care is the most appropriate path for your recovery.

  • No Obligation: A pressure-free environment to help you make an informed decision about your health.

Please Note: A screening appointment is a brief chat to determine suitability for care. It does not include a full physical examination, a clinical diagnosis, or treatment. These are performed during a standard Initial Consultation.
